A Few Last Miscellaneous Thoughts
A few remnant thoughts regarding the trip to Portland last week and some observations that occurred during the drive:
There is a Sleater-Kinney Road exit on I-5. This explains a lot.
Washington state has few original city names that don't come from something Indian. We have Tukwila and Seattle, of course, but when hard-pressed to name their towns something unique, early settlers picked things like "Des Moines", "Littlerock", and "Vancouver".
The day before I left town, Jess pointed me to Chuck Palahniuk's guide to Portland. I haven't read it, but I will have by the time I return to the land of ports.
Barefoot's seductively smooth lounge cover of Underworld's "Born Slippy" that we heard on the first night in town was remarkably difficult for me to track down. It took almost a day. I highly recommend it as "something you'd probably enjoy boinking to". Put it on the same playlist as your copy of Bat For Lashes's I'm On Fire. Hell, go for a twofer and put it on the same playlist as the original. Then again, if you're me the 9 minute, 43 second duration written on the Trainspotting soundtrack suggests you could listen exclusively to the original and probably be done with enough time left over before the end of the track to boil some water for tea. And steep it. And add milk and sugar. And blow on it until it's cool enough to drink. Provided I can remember, I'll conduct half of the experiment tomorrow afternoon when I awake.

Chuck's book is a fun read. But I'd recommend creating your own Pdx adventures than trying to relive his.
P.S. In the last chapter he mentions a party at Dennis & Linny's place. Dennis was my publishing professor. :-)
