On Computer Filesystems
If you want to talk about filesystems, you have to know about filesystems.
It's as simple as that. I am looking for some high-performance FSes out there because I am looking to work on a project that, while it might not be as data-intensive as mapping the human genome or scanning in satellite photographs of the surface of the planet, is still pretty big.
So I went straight to the source. The father of the modern filesystem. Dominic Giampaolo has been kind enough to share his book online in PDF format.
I have written before about how the Be OS had the best filesystem you could have ever hoped to have for 1990 technology. By 2007 standards, it's still pretty good.
But to talk about that, I'd have to finish the book first. I downloaded the PDF some time ago, and have had it sitting around for awhile until need and curiosity both sparked my interest in picking it up.
