Jedi Knights of the Dinner Table

Erica and I game. Regularly. On Saturdays we have adventures on Khorvaire, the only non-whack-assed land of the distant d20 world of Eberron. On Thursdays, we pick up our lightsabers (though only one of us ever bothers to fuckin' use the damn thing) and fight corruption and Sith in an alternate history where Palpatine was killed by Mace Windu.

None of this has to make a lick of sense to any of you. My point is that gaming is an experience that involves rolling your dice every so often, and, usually, swilling soft drinks faster than your pancreas can handle and cracking a joke about every other word the GM says.

I, and others, have noticed an odd tendency for me to make some kind of reference to Serenity or Firefly during our Thursday night sessions, so tonight I decided to keep track of the things to which we, as a group, made reference. Of the ones I caught:

  • Serenity
  • The Fifth Element
  • Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas
  • Star Trek episode "A Piece of the Action"
  • Scrubs episode "My Way Home"
  • Apocalypse Now
  • Fight Club
  • Ghostbusters
  • The Simpsons
  • Time Bandits
  • Aqua Teen Hunger Force
  • This Island Earth

I imagine this is fairly typical for most other gaming groups, though there's probably more anime references among those who play Big Eyes, Small Mouth. Just a hunch.

Best. Entry. Ever.

We should do this for every game we play.

And /some of us/ Jedi don't believe in killing everything that moves
