Back in My Day

Back in my day, we young 'uns would watch this thing we called "TV". TVs didn't have plasma in them at that point, and "hi-def" meant you were listening to Murder, She Wrote with the volume too loud. TV sets were big chunky boxes with a cathode ray tube inside them, and — get this — you had to wait for the damn thing to heat up before you could see anything.

I'd all but forgotten this fact in the middle of my hectic 21st century lifestyle of instant-on liquid crystal displays. Tonight, at 7:57 PM, I wanted to watch The Simpsons and for no damned reason whatsoever, I thought "If I turn the TV on now, it'll be warmed up by eight."

Not sure why I thought this, but I suppose once you get these things ingrained into your young little mind, they will continue to pop up years after they could otherwise be safely forgotten.
