Security and Encryption in Remote Desktop
Remote Desktop does, apparently, support encryption. I would still tunnel it over SSH if I were you.
Remote Desktop has the advantage of showing you the little yellow tool tips if you position your mouse over an object. TightVNC doesn't. Remote Desktop will also resize the hell out of your desktop and ultimately push your icons completely out of their carefully structured order. TightVNC doesn't.
Remote Desktop also locks your current PC session and leaves it that way after you've finished your remote activities. TightVNC doesn't. What's more, I hate having to enter my password all the damn time.
Advantage: TightVNC on condition of it is used exclusively over SSH.
