Nineteen Eighty-Four Plus Shipping

I was puttering around on newegg.com today putting together a shopping list for the parts that would ultimately become my Starcraft II machine. It was then that I realized what month it is.

Holy hell, it's been a full year. One year ago, I made a very big decision that has unequivocally changed my life forever, for better and for worse.

One year ago this August, I bought a Drobo.

Since then, wow. My life is totally different. I live in another part of the world and have the dispensable income to be picking and choosing the parts of a high-end new computer system that I need in order to play a video game.

Other than that, it's been pretty uneventful. The summer sun now loses its battle against the rain storms from time to time: today I was sweating downtown in a T-shirt and jeans, yesterday I was bundled up in a long-sleeved hooded sweatshirt trying to keep warm.

My new PC is going to be unbelievable. Unfortunately, I am rapidly running out of new PC names. It started in 1998 when I rebuilt my primary computer and dubbed her Jackie. The replacement system was a Dell SKU called Marty, which I kept for seven years before inheriting a Vista box I called Leslie. The only other options left are Anthony and Mrs. Pascal, which both don't really have a lot of zing to them. There's one choice left before I switch to a totally different nomenclature altogether:

Jackie Two-Point O.

There's always still Pascal, which I think has a nice zip to it.
