Ups and Downs
This has been a fairly significant week.
Work oscillates between periods of boredom and periods of panic, but never periods of slowness. My team was re-organized and my new boss approached me today with the opportunity to grow into another service. I am unsure how much of it is real opportunity and how much of it is doing twice as much effort for the same pay.
I'd taken two weeks off from my otherwise rigorous (for me, at least) gym attendance while I waited for my second membership to go through. That's right, kids. I belong to two gyms now. Regardless, the time off went straight to my metabolism and I've gained seven pounds. Either that or the new gym's scales disagree with the old gym's scales.
My bathroom scale is a damned dirty liar and always has been.
Wednesday night we went kayaking down the Samammish River, a great way to spend two hours and still end up at a brewery. Not to be outdone, I've also tapped into my private reserve of homemade vanilla-infused vodka. The vanilla-infusing is homemade, not the vodka. It adds a certain sweetness to my White Russians that isn't otherwise there. Quite good, though I must confess White Russians still have an aftertaste like heartache. Fortunately, I shall never want for half and half in this house, so it's a good cocktail to have around.
Monk picked up the new Aerosmith version of Guitar Hero for me for my birthday. It's pretty nice if you like Aerosmith. And I do. Oh, how I do.
Combine that with the imminent debut of the new iPhone, and things are shaping up to be pretty sweet.
