Movin' on Up

It's the team's last day in our old building and the place is like a ghost town.

Most of the managers and all of the development team have been given the day off. Me? Still at my desk, keeping the world safe, fighting the good fight for one more day.

I was assigned three large plastic moving crates to store my office accoutrements. I don't even have enough stuff to fill one of them.

In my new office, I expect to decorate it, as I told someone earlier today, "like a gay retarded guy would". I'm thinking a Green Lantern / Jackie Kennedy motif. Green and pink, like a garish watermelon made of elitism.

I'll miss the quick commute to work. I'll miss bumping into Steve Ballmer in the elevators. I'll miss the bookish-looking girl who works at the cafeteria. Yesterday I found out her name was Jackie B.

Sometimes, providence is a kick in the pants.

I'll be taking off a bit early today, since the move Starts At Five. Ordinarily there is always chaos and panic in the last minutes of a move, but with 90% of the floor completely absent, it's strangely serene.

The new place is "only ten minutes away" and is filled with endless corridors of glass. From the artist's conception sketches I've seen, it looks like Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital added on a new cell block. We shall see how it looks once a gay retarded guy puts his touches on it.
