Knight Moves

This came up briefly during a conversation with Monk regarding how and why a travesty like Highlander II: The Quickening got made.

Some time ago, Christopher Lambert appeared in Knight Moves, a surprisingly good movie about chess and murder. While researching this film, which I haven't seen in over 10 years, I discovered the Italian concept of giallo. This is really interesting to me, because my first impression in commenting on Knight Moves is that the ending is probably as predictable now as the ending to Deep Red, a.k.a. Dario Argento's Profondo rosso, a.k.a. You've Got to be Joking if You Think I Couldn't See That Coming From a Mile Away.

Knight Moves, at least in retrospect, is a great example of a giallo-inspired film, so it only makes sense that — eons later — I'd naturally see similarities in it to a film of that genre.
