Back on Ruby on Rails
After a conversation today with Kallinan, I realized that I'm once again due to flirt with Ruby on Rails. I go through a periodicity of about 4 or 5 months with this project, and I never seem to be happy about it.
I like using my iBook for RoR testing, and that means Locomotive, which hasn't been updated since March 2007 despite having a few outstanding showstopping bugs.
So I took the plunge and did something I've never done before:
$ sudo gem install rails --include-dependencies
Now I'm running ruby-1.8.6 and rails-1.2.3 and it actually works as expected. This just never happens. Also, it helps that I'm going through the O'Reilly book Ruby on Rails: Up and Running, which I picked up from Notacon 4 by giving an impromptu donation to The Hacker Foundation. (Best $20 I ever spent?)
No real results yet, but I've not been so completely frustrated after ten minutes that I've had to quit in disgust.
