Eye Spy

I had an optometrist appointment today. First one in about, uh, let's see... 2,641 days. By my math, that's 7 years and 2 months. I dug out my old prescription so I could take a look at the difference. Keep in mind I have absolutely no idea what these numbers mean because eye doctors speak in Latin or something.

1999-08-05:
O.D.: -1.00 - .50 x 175
O.S.: plano - 1.50 x 10

2006-10-28:
O.D.: -0.75 - .25 x 155
O.S.: plano - 1.25 x 15

What's the significance? I don't know. These values are called my "distance" and have the respective order of "SPH", "CYL", and "AXIS". All that my corn-fed cognitive faculties can make from this piece of paper is that "O.D." and "O.S." mean "right eye" and "left eye". This makes sense since I know the Latin for right and left are dexter and sinister.

The fact that the numbers aren't drastically different suggests that I'm awesome and I finally have a body part that lacks a family history of disintegrating after the age of 17. Plus, the first new pair of glasses I've had since I was in high school. (The lenses are more recent, but "recent" is a word that loses meaning after waiting as long as I have to get back to the doctor).
