I'm happy that Sun has released ZFS under an open source license. Too bad they picked the wrong one. Now, I'm not a zealot who swears that the GPL is the One True License. That's actually not correct. The One True License is the BSD license, with just public domaining the fucker as a close second.

They made a mistake by choosing a license that not everyone can extend, because aside from licensing issues, ZFS could very well have been the last file system I'd ever need. Now, I guess I'll just have to wait for someone to create a competing truly open re-implementation that supports multiple platforms.
