Warren Ellis: "Joss Whedon Killed the WB"
Comic book great golden god Warren Ellis tells it like it is: Joss Whedon Killed the WB.
How? When Buffy moved from the WB to UPN, Joss took all of the WB's precious teen demographic with him. Buffy was the keystone series that kept the supporting framework crap like Dawson's Creek together, and when it went away, the WB was pretty much locked into a downward spiral it couldn't pull out of.
In fact, I think the only thing that will save the WB is if they call Joss up, apologize profusely, and front him enough cash to make a Firefly season 2 with complete creative control and a sane marketing campaign this time.
Yup. That's the only thing. (A man can dream.)

Actually, nothing can save the WB now. They've officially merged with CBS, enveloping UPN, and will be reborn (in the Fall, I believe) as the CW network.
