Serenity Canon

Everybody knows that "Serenity Cannon" is that thing Mal takes from the Haven massacre and straps himself into before leaving Miranda in order to get the Reavers' attention. But what about "Serenity Canon"?

Jamie Chambers co-wrote the Serenity RPG core book, and in this post on the official RPG site, he justifies his existence. Sure, every browncoat would much prefer an RPG book written by Joss, but guess what? Joss ain't makin' it. Having a reliable crew of talented writers with Joss's blessing is a close second, and we are thankful for that.

Jamie's point is that the RPG is only as canonical as Joss wants it to be. Say there's another movie, and it turns out that Inara is a robot and Zoe can't make apple crumb cake. Whoops. Hopefully fans will recognize the difference between "book written to fit a movie" and "Joss dropping a huge bombshell on the audience. Again." The RPG isn't meant as the be-all end-all guide to the Verse. It's a guide to telling good stories. Don't make it a religion.
