Power Girl: My New Favorite Superhero

A blog I've just discovered is Dave's Long Box, which is a well-written and funny look back at one man's comic book collection. Folks, this is why we invented the Internet.

And the thing that I enjoy most about Dave's Long Box is that the author, Dave Campbell, doesn't flip through ultra-rare issues of "Detective Comics" or that one "Superman" from 1944 where the Man of Steel hurls a giant warhead at an unbelievably racist caricature of a Japanese soldier.

No, Dave goes through comics from the 1980s and 1990s. Comics that were around when I was growing up. He elaborates on the story arcs that altered the very fiber of beings like Captain America and Iron Man. He pokes fun at Aquaman like we all do. And he frequently points out how Wonder Woman is pretty much on the highest pedestal in the industry.

And last September, he wrote a ridiculously thorough piece about Power Girl's enormous knockers. I don't remember Power Girl very well. She was pretty much a second- or third-tier super and one that a casual reader such as myself could easily forget. In fact, it wasn't until they showed up on Justice League Unlimited that I initially heard about Booster Gold and also learned that Big Barda wasn't just a dream I had from looong ago. Booster and Barda were always just "Hey, DC isn't just Superman and Batman" characters. They were present and accounted for, but easily ignored in favor of the You Know Whos.

Apparently, Power Girl has had numerous origin stories and has worked with Superman on numerous occasions. Oh, and her boobs are huge. News to me. Now, I'm not about to run out and start finding Power Girl wallpapers and stuff, but if Dave Campbell can talk this well about the bustline of a forgettable DC also-ran, imagine what he's going to do should Peter Parker ever get a hangnail.
