Firm Where?
Thanks in large part to the "iRiver enthusiast" site misticriver.net, I have tonight moved my iRiver iFP-799T/US from firmware version 1.25 to 1.65 to 1.85.
And it rocks. Hard. The 1.85-UMS firmware essentially converts your iRiver into a USB mass storage device. You are no longer bound to the proprietary, highly sucky iRiver Music Manager program to move files to your iRiver. You can use your OS directly, and that means you can now move files off of your iRiver now, as well. (Previously, file transfers were uni-directional. Presumably, this was a concession to the RIAA because the iRiver forces no other Draconian Rights Management onto your music files.)
I am told that 1.85-UMS is very cutting edge, so there may be unknown bugs in this version. I don't care. It just cranked my iRiver enjoyment knob to eleven.
