Douglas E. Welch: The Anti-Toby
I openly resent some of my users here. I make no claims to the contrary because sometimes, you just have to vent and it's either here, safely, anonymously on the Internet, or to the user's face. Which would you pick? Douglas Welch, on the other hand, appears to be a decent human being who has written a piece about user respect called "Don't Say It". He recently revamped this essay into a quick edition of his Career Opportunities podcast. It's definitely worth a listen about how insulting users can be a career-limiting move, and how everyone is a human and deserves to be treated as such and blah blah blah.
I'll try to remember all of this the next time a user tells me that she "clicked the thing" and then "a thing popped up" and "now her screen doesn't work anymore". Sigh.
