"Word"s of Wisdom

Microsoft Word documents (.DOC files) and Microsoft Publisher files (.PUB) can be bzip2 compressed like crazy. I have to wonder why these proprietary file formats were not designed to be stored in a compressed format on disk in the first place. Speed, most likely.

But when has Office or Publisher ever seemed fast to you?
