Newest Nintendo Rumor: Zelda on the Big Screen
I don't know if Nintendo is planning on making a Zelda movie or not. What bothers me is if they're going to give Link a voice should they decide to go ahead and put him up on the silver screen.
There was a good amount of angst that I went through over a similar matter when Peter Chung went ahead and cast someone to do the voice for Æon Flux when that franchise went from non-vocal shorts on Liquid Television to a 30-minute animated series. Personally, I think it was a good call on Peter's part. He considered keeping Æon mute, and I can see how what was artistic in a short could become a real problem for a weekly series. Eventually, he decided she should talk and he gave her a great voice, a voice that fit her. He didn't just pick Kathy Najimy and call it a day. (Ugh. Thinking about Kathy Najimy makes me shudder.)
So I'm sure that out there, somewhere, is a decent actor who can give voice to Link. I just hope that Nintendo makes this decision carefully, since just throwing Billy Crudup's name on the list marks a decidedly short-sighted view.
(I am aware that there was a Legend of Zelda animated series on TV when I was a kid. This totally doesn't effect anything. Anywhere. Ever. 'cept for the fact I smiled slightly when, back in high school, I got a recruiting packet from Gannon University.)
