All I Get Is Grief
I set up a new user's PC. She goes from using Windows 98 straight to Windows XP, and some applications she needs on the old machine are not slated to get installed on the new one. This is a transitional time for her, so she needs to have access to both systems.
Fortunately for all involved, she sits alone in an office built for two. There is enough room and outlets for 2 PCs on opposite sides of the room, so I set up her new system, and then bring in a spare monitor so she can still use her old PC, too.
As an extra, I put TightVNC on both machines, so she can remotely use her old computer through a window on her new computer.
And all I get is grief about it.
After just a few hours with her new setup, she's bitching about how slow the interface is, and how some windows aren't refreshing right away. I'm thinking of an old adage. Something about a gift horse...? Jesus Christ, lady, I was trying to do you a favor. I guess I learned my lesson. From now on, get up off your ass, walk on over to the other side of your office, and do what you have to do.
