Is the Firefox Honeymoon Over? - OSNews.com
More Firefox exploits are now available than for Internet Explorer, thus making our favorite alternabrowser the next big bull's eye for cyberattack and spyware.
So what have I done to mitigate this? Easy. I've switched back to Internet Explorer.
Internet Explorer, aside from being rock-steady, now gets almost monthly security patches, makes every website look pretty, and alphebetizes all my bookmarks just like a filesystem. It's really quite nice.
Ha! I really had you going there for a second, didn't I? No, I'm not back to using IE for anything more than I used to: microsoft.com downloads and that's about it. Simply put, as stable as IE is, it's still something from the year 2000, and tabbed browsing is a must-have. And I openly admit I'm biased: IE 7.0 will not sway me. I'm a Firefox man, and I take the rough along with the smooth.
So what if Firefox is the new target du jour? All this really reflects back to the fact that safe browsing is a state of mind, it's not what browser you use. Firefox can block pop-ups and with an extension can stop those Flash-based ads, too. It can't prevent you from going to http://www.super-sex-vids-4-you.ru. And it doesn't really matter which browser I use to surf on the dark side. Eventually, I'm going to get bitten by the wrong site at the wrong time using the wrong version of the wrong browser.
So use your head when you surf the web. Either that or switch to Lynx.
