My Friday Off
Fridays are my day off: I work on Saturdays, so it's good to have one weekday free to go to banks, barbers, and other places that aren't open on Sundays. I don't get home from work until just shy of 6 PM, and everything in Cleveland pretty much shuts down at 6 PM, so Fridays are how and when I get my grown-up stuff down.
On the way to lunch, Erica and I drove over the exact same pothole that we drive over every time we leave the parking lot since Spring: it's huge. And today I managed to remember to call the Cleveland Pothole Hotline (1-216-664-2510, thank you very much WRUW). You can imagine how a phone call to a government service on a Friday afternoon would go: well this was the exact opposite. The phone rang once, and a woman answered. An actual, factual, human person was on the other end. "I'd like to report a pothole," I told her. She asked me where it was. I told her. She told me she'd put it on the pothole watchlist. I thanked her and hung up. Total time spent: 31 seconds. I don't believe for a second anything will occur because of this, but at least I didn't start ruing.
I found B&L Comics, as per Dan's suggestion. The guy was very helpful, but could not provide me with copies of Desolation Jones #1 or #2. He gave me a number to call, but it is contingent on me being in Akron on Sunday, so that's a wash.
When I got home, Erica left to meet her folks for a baseball game, and I stayed home to do something more interesting: I tried to make chai tea. Here's my first attempt:
I don't even know if that's the right color it should be. Taste's neat: like mother's milk might taste, with a kick of tanginess. It's mellow spice, but not overly dairy-y. I couldn't say one way or the other if I screwed it up. I may try it again after doing some actual research on real chai recipes some time.
