A Second of Bliss

On most occasions, I will have a bunch of different things happening at once. I'll have a PC in front of me, and one to my rear, and fourteen different tasks to divide among them. Download this, upload that, checksum both of those things, and install a few others. Firefox, Process Explorer, rbtray.

And on very rare occasions, every one of my tasks will magically be managing itself. I'll get off of the phone and go "Damn. I need to check on th— wait, no. No, it's downloading just fine." And then I'll flinch and realize I forgot to install Apache or something, and I'll stop myself again. "No, Apache is installed and serving files just fine." And I'll go down the list of programs I have to install, and sites I need to visit and files I have to transfer. And for an all too brief second, every last job is being done. No error messages, no patches that I need to bootstrap. It's all just...working.

And then I realize that I've basically been ignoring fifty-six humans and all the problems that they can never solve without me just to get that magic second, and just as quickly as it came the second of bliss is gone.
