"git": WTF?

git is a hack. This isn't surprising, considering that its author, Linus Torvalds, is best known for another hack: a kernel clone that the world now knows as "Linux". Now, the 1.0 Linux kernel was probably a whole hell of a lot shittier than git is right now, but if The Innovator's Dilemma has taught me anything, it's that shitty products seldom get shittier.

So by this time next year, git will either be an embarrassing punchline on lkml or it will be a really robust SCM-like filesystem. Right now, I wouldn't touch it with a ten-foot pole and neither should you. But I've already subscribed to the mailing list, and I look forward to seeing what braver men than I are going to do with it.
