Gentoo Torrents

Gentoo version 2005.0 has been released.

I have absolutely no idea if that's a good thing or not. What I do know is that the Gentoo distributors have their act together. You can download a veritable smorgasbord of torrents from http://torrents.gentoo.org. Trying to fetch one after the attention this has received from Slashdot means I'm downloading data so quickly that it's actually pinching off the bandwidth used by my other applications.

I generally go through a pattern with Linux: hear about a new distro that promises it's going to be different, try to install it, get nowhere, resign myself back to BSDs, repeat.

I may never get around to burning new CDs, but I have a few more on the pending list of ISOs I want to try: FreeDOS for one, and now Gentoo.

Not because I hear that it's a good distro (though that certainly is the case), but because their distribution system is so thorough. I am so impressed by looking over Gentoo's list of available torrents that I'm actually thinking of giving their OS a whirl.
